Broadcaster, DJ, label head and producer, Danny Howard lives and breathes dance music. An authority on the culture, the sound and the scene, with a tenure at BBC Radio 1 that has lasted over a decade, he has positioned himself as the tastemaker of a generation. Host of Radio 1’s flagship Friday night show Radio 1’s Dance Party, Danny’s transition from underground champion to fully-fledged star of the station is credit to his unwavering commitment to musical discovery and a gift as the sharpest A&R ears in the business.
Joining BBC Radio 1 in 2012 as one of the station’s youngest ever presenters, Danny has progressed through the ranks to become one of UK radio’s best loved hosts. In 2012 he landed his first solo show on the station, hosting Saturday night’s Dance Anthems, before joining the legendary Friday night line-up alongside Annie Mac and Pete Tong in 2017.
Accruing over a million listeners weekly, Danny’s takeover of the coveted Friday night 6pm slot has proven a success story for the station, working alongside Sarah Story and Pete as the faces of Radio 1 Dance, while kickstarting listener’s weekends across the country. Maintaining his later Club Mix weekly slot, Danny continues to represent rising stars of the underground as well as dance music’s best loved talents on the two shows.
While Danny’s broadcasting success has propelled his stardom, he is first and foremost a DJ. An adept selector brimming with musical knowledge, he plays at the world’s best venues, from Drumsheds and fabric and Manchester’s The Warehouse Project to Pacha and Hï Ibiza and the global festival circuit. His three-year residency at Amnesia Ibiza alongside Sonny Fodera has also proved one of the island’s most popular nights and this year sees an exciting move to Pacha.
Having released on key imprints such as Defected’s club-focused imprint DFTD, Saved and Moon Harbour, Danny’s abilities as a producer are undeniable and another key to his involvement within the scene. Launching his own imprint Nothing Else Matters back in 2019 with the intention to profile both established names and rising stars of the house scene, the independent label has released music from Darius Syrossian, Nicole Moudaber, Armand Van Helden, Felix Da Housecat, and Lauren Lo Sung, as well as a number of homegrown UK artists. Having taken a brief hiatus from the studio to focus on DJing and broadcasting, he is now back producing and releasing new records.
An integral part of the UK dance scene, Danny’s sky-high ambitions continue to evolve, with more new releases and his biggest and most exciting run of shows since djing in 2024, now on the horizon.
